0.26 - Radiation prototypes


I did something in this version that I don't normally do and that's to release unfinished content. I'm trying to develop the concept of radiation in the game, something that is currently undercooked as a general-purpose game mechanic.

This update makes radiation a standalone effect that's independent from the toxic waste barrels in the Feedwater level.

To supplement radiation, it introduces two new game mechanics:

  1. Anti-radiation bubble shield. For now, this is just a boulder that protects the player from radiation within a small radius. This is Feedwater's "companion object" that can protect you as long as you protect it
  2. Quarantine chamber. This resets the player's radiation level, allowing level designers to create multiple radiation puzzles in one level without having to design around the player's radiation level increasing across the duration of the entire level. It can be connected to a switch, meaning it can also form puzzles by itself

These mechanics are demonstrated in two prototype levels accessible in the Level Select menu. They are also available in the Level Editor if you want to test out your own radiation level designs.

Art/sound is placeholder/non-existent for now. Based on your feedback, the next update will refine this mechanic further.
