0.14 - Advanced Wiring System
Version 0.14 brings the first iteration of an exciting new feature that I call the Advanced Wiring System (AWS). Previously, switches could only connect to a single door. I wanted to widen the space of possible object combinations and puzzle mechanics by allowing players to turn on and off any object with the right order/timing. So AWS is based on 2 principles:
- Switches can connect to any object that can have a meaningful off state
- Switches can connect to multiple objects at once
This update adds wire splitters to enable principle 2 and revamps the wiring system so that wires can be connected to One Way Doors and Destructors, both of which have been given an "off state". This opens the door to a whole new set of puzzle opportunities - a taste of these are demonstrated in the new tutorial level "Switches".
This is just the first iteration of AWS. Next steps:
- Figure out what multi-switch wiring groups look like. Do all connected switches need to be turned on to activate the wiring group or just one? Which parts of the wiring group light up?
- Add other objects to AWS, including circular saws, conveyor belts, and even arrow boxes
I've also added a Level Select page - the number of levels was getting too large for the main menu!
The new wiring system is supported in the Level Editor - I'd love to see what you can come up with!
