0.9 - Easing the difficulty and new metal!



Version 0.8 was the first time I posted Feedwater on Newgrounds (link) - it actually got some valuable feedback! The main takeaway I got was that the main level, "Feedwater", was far too hard. I was losing potential feedback and preventing players from seeing the game because I spiked the difficulty too much in this level.

The prototype has only 3 levels: 2 tutorial levels and this one hard level. The learning curve is just too steep and players don't get the time to build the familiarity and skills to beat Feedwater without frustration. They walk away unsatisfied and I lose potential learnings, which is ultimately what this prototype is for: to make Feedwater a better game and, to some extent, figure out what it even is! Why on earth would I punish the very people whose help I need?

So I added checkpoints to that level and downgraded its difficulty from "Hard" to "Medium", whatever that means. No longer do you need to beat all 3 of the first few rooms without dying - your progress towards opening the main gate will be saved in-between. I hope this lowers the bar for new players to see everything Feedwater has to offer.

On a side note, I replaced the terrible steel crate placeholder art. Now steel and dynamite crates look a little less hideous...
